Kalderetang Baka or Kambing

(from PinoyRecipe.net but with personal update)

1 kilo beef cut into chunks. See extra instruction below if using kambing (goat meat)
1 big can (350g) liver spread or ground liver
5 onions, minced
5 cloves garlic, minced
6 tomatoes, sliced
1 cup tomato sauce
3 green peppers, diced
3 red peppers, diced
4 pieces hot chilli peppers, minced
3/4 cup grated cheese
2 cups beef stock or water
1/4 cup cooking or olive oil

  1. In a casserole, saute garlic and onions in oil. Then add tomatoes, red & green pepper and chilli peppers.
  2. Add in the beef, tomato sauce, liver spread and water or stock. Salt to taste and let simmer for at least 1 hour or until the beef is tender.
  3. Add cheese and olives (optional) and continue to simmer until the sauce thickens.
  4. Serve with plain rice

Additional Tips:

  1. Instead of beef, goat meat (kambing) can be used. If goat’s meat is used, marinate the meat in vinegar, garlic, salt and pepper for at least 15 minutes.
  2. For a special kaldereta, do not use water or beef stock. Use an equivalent weight of onions to the beef (1 kg of onions : 1 kg of beef). The onions will serve as water to the dish.

Personal Update: Other ways to get rid of the strong goat smell
  1. Boil it with ginger (luya)
  2. Use lemon or lime juice instead of vinegar
  3. In addition to marinate tips above, goat meat is deep fried but not too much.

Meet my buddy in my cube. I give her water in exchange for fresh air. We both work hard trying to survive the day.

iPhone vs Pre

Having a qwerty keyboard is essential to me when composing and editing text or email. Combined that with cut&paste feature and at least 3 megapixel camera, I will not need to carry laptop and camera when travelling.

iPhone 3.0

Finally the much awaited cut&paste is coming on iphone firmware 3.0. Apple has scheduled around "summer" (between June and September) the release of 3.0 firmware. But watch out for features that will not be available on the first gen iphone.

Still, this phone is only good for mobile web browsing. Composing email is still difficult with the touchscreen. I need the keyboard like the Palm Pre and Nokia N97.

Palm Pre running Palm WebOS

Today, Palm announced their next generation smartphone, called Palm Pre. It runs a new operating system called Palm WebOS (aka Nova). Its all touchscreen with slide out keyboard. It has 8Gb of space, 3 Megapixel Camera, GPS, WiFi and 3G EVDO or HSDPA.

Sprint will carry it at first introduction estimated first half of 2009. But there is a 3G GSM/WCDMA version in the works for areas that Sprint do not cover (e.g. outside of US).

More info from Engadget. They even have video demo.

Laptop like performance? Cut & paste using two fingers?! Wireless charger?!! Whoa!!!

A Prosperous New Year to All !!!

May u be BLESSED w/ things you pray for,
GRANTED w/ things u wish for,
& REWARDED w/ things u work hard for.
Enjoy GOD's LOVE always.
A Prosperous New Year to you!

The above message is a nice greeting I received via sms text. It has a powerful message so decided to share it via my blog.

I tried to forward it from my iPhone to friends and to my surprise, it doesn't have that capability. Tried composing it as new message thinking I could send to multiple friends, again it doesn't have that capability too. I ended up moving the SIM card to my Treo 650 (unlock), created new message and did those cool features in there.
